Orange Salad

1 large tub cool whip

1 large box Orange Jell-O

1 medium can crushed pineapple

2 cans Pacific mandarin oranges ( Must be Pacific)

Put cool whip and Jell-O in bowl and mix until even in color. Add the rest of the ingredients. Cool in refrigerator for 2 or more hours.

TIP: Try strawberry Jell-O and sliced strawberries. Pistachio Jell-O pudding and crushed pineapple with cool whip is yummy too.





Seven Layer Salad



1/2 head lettuce (your choice) chopped

4-5 tomatoes diced

1 pound cooked bacon (crisp)

1 small bag frozen green peas

3/4 cup dixed green onion

12 oz. Shredded cheddar cheese

6 sliced boiled eggs

1 cup chopped cooked chicken

1/2 cup sliced mushrooms

1 cup cooked shrimp or crab

Choose 7 ingredients listed above. Layer in a glass bowl. Spread the top with Best Foods Mayonnaise. Think of colors showing through bowl. I like adding 2 TBS. sugar to the mayonnaise mixture, mix well then spread it on the top.





Green Pea Salad

1 package small green peas frozen

1/2 minced red onion

1/2 cup Mayonnaise

1 TBS. sugar

Mix mayonnaise and sugar till dissolved. Add green peas and onion, and blend well. Refrigerate for 1 hour or more.

Apple Salad​

6 Braeburn apples diced

3/4 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup or less minced red onion

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1 TBS. sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Core and dice apples. Mix sugar and mayonnaise. Add the rest of the ingredients. Salt and pepper to taste.

TIP: Granny Smith is a good choice of apple if unable to get Braeburn. You can add raisins, grapes....





Taco Salad

1/2 head lettuce

3 large tomatoes diced

1 bunch green onion diced

1 onion diced

1 bag shredded cheddar cheese

1 bag shredded pepper-jack cheese

2 pounds hamburger lean

Sour Cream

1 Jar Salsa

1 package Taco Bell Seasoning

1 can pitted olives

1 diced jalapenos

Prepare Guacamole and Taco Dressing 2 hours or more ahead. (see Appetizer section for recipe). Brown hamburger, Taco Bell Seasoning, and white diced onion until crumbly and no longer pink. Drain well. Cool for 1 hour in a serving bowl. Chop lettuce and place in a bowl. Put tomatoes in a bowl. Do the same with green onions, sour cream, jalapenos, olives, salsa and the same with a different bowl for each of the cheeses. 

TIP: You can arrange in layers if you know everyones's tastes. 



Potato Salad ALA Grandma Washburn 

6 or more large russet potatoes

3 sticks green onion/scallions diced

1/2 small onion diced or minced

1 or more cup Miracle Whip

6 large eggs boiled

Salt and pepper and Paprika to taste

Cook potatoes until done. Peel and dice to bite size pieces. Let cool. Bring eggs to a boil and then turn off heat and let them set in the hot water to finish cooking (about 10 minutes). Meanwhile, dice the onions and green onions. Peel and chop eggs finely, add to the mayonnaise. Blend well. Fold in onions. Lastly, fold in potatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and paprika. Chill for 2-3 hours.

TIP: If you invite Aunt Nikki over, mash the egg yolks and do not use the whites. It is also good if you add crumbled bacon.

Tuna macaroni salad ALA Great Grandma Washburn

1/2 box salas macaroni (elbow macaroni works too)

3 cans white chunk tuna drained

1 cup mayonnaise or more to taste.

1/2 onion minced

3 sticks green onion diced

3 TBS. sweet relish

Salt, Pepper and Paprika

Cook macaroni according to directions. Drain. Dice onions. Mix mayonnaise and onions. Add macaroni and tuna broken up into pieces. Mix well. Add salt pepper, and paprika to taste.

Macaroni Salad

1 box elbo macaroni

1 pound bacon

12 oz. Shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 onion diced

1/2 Bottle Ranch dressing or more

Salt, Pepper and Paprika

Cook macaroni according to directions. Fry bacon till crisp. Shred the cheese. Mix all the ingredients and chill 2 hours.





Grandma's German Potato Salad

1 onion diced

1 pound bacon thick sliced

6 potatoes peeled and diced bite size

Salt and Pepper as desired

Cider Vinegar to taste (1/4 cup?)

1 TBS. flour

1 TBS. sugar

Fry the bacon until crispy and take out of pan and drain. Keep the grease in the pan, and add diced onion. When translucent, add flour to pan until blended. Stir in water, sugar, and vinegar. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 minutes. Then ass potatoes and cook over medium heat until potatoes are warm. Add the bacon and add salt, pepper to taste. Serve hot.
